From readiness to funding to impact
Institutional funding is a journey – from building a strong foundation and finding the right opportunities to putting resources to work and sustaining impact over time. Along the way, strong programs, thoughtful strategy, and effective systems all need to work together. Golden Leaf Consulting supports mission-driven organizations across the grant lifecycle, helping you get ready, get funded, and deliver meaningful, sustained impact.
01. GET READY
Organization & Program Readiness
We help organizations strengthen the programs, plans, and internal capacity behind their funding goals. Whether you’re developing a new program, preparing to pursue institutional funding, or considering a more complex government opportunity, we’ll help you identify what’s working, address gaps, and build a stronger foundation for funding and implementation
Services include:
Know where you’re strong and where to strengthen
Developed from more than a decade of experience helping organizations prepare for and manage federal awards, the Capacity to Performance Index (CPI) is a comprehensive, cross-functional assessment of the programs, people, processes, and systems that drive organizational performance.
Using the rigor of federal funding as a benchmark, the CPI identifies opportunities to strengthen operations, improve efficiency, steward funding responsibly, and build the capacity to deliver greater impact—regardless of how your organization is funded.
Your Capacity-to-Performance Index includes:
- Comprehensive cross-functional organizational assessment
- Analysis of organizational strengths, gaps & risks
- Identification of opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness
- Review of systems and practices that support funding stewardship & compliance
- Prioritized recommendations for targeted improvements
- Detailed CPI Report + Capacity Strengthening Priorities
You don’t need a federal grant to benefit from being federal-funding ready.
Turn your priorities into progress.
The Capacity Strengthening Partnership is a six-month coaching and implementation engagement designed to help your team put the recommendations from your CPI into practice.
Rather than handing you a report and leaving you to figure out what comes next, we’ll work through your highest-priority areas together—with regular coaching, practical tools and templates, and hands-on review and feedback. At the end of six months, we’ll repeat the CPI so you can see where you’ve made progress and identify your next priorities.
Your 6-Month Capacity Strengthening Partnership includes:
- Monthly strategy & coaching session to keep you on track with your priorities
- Templates, tools & examples for your team to tailor
- Guidance to help your team adapt and implement tools within your organization
- Up to 4 hours each month for expert review and feedback on your team’s customized policies, procedures, processes, systems, and materials
- Ongoing progress tracking & priority adjustments
- Final CPI Reassessment + Progress Report
Build programs that are designed to deliver and positioned to fund.
Strong programs need more than a good idea. The Programmatic Roadmap is a facilitated planning process that connects your mission and community needs to a clear program strategy, implementation plan, resource requirements, outcomes, and long-term impact.
Together, we build both the Blueprint for what your program will accomplish and the Playbook for putting it into action—giving your team a practical roadmap for implementation, evaluation, sustainability, and funding.
Your Programmatic Roadmap includes:
- Mission, vision & strategic alignment
- Community need & theory of change
- Objectives, activities, outputs & outcomes
- Resources, staffing & implementation requirements
- Evaluation & quality assurance
- Sustainability & funding considerations
- Program Blueprint + Implementation Playbook
02. GET FUNDED
Institutional Funding Strategy & Development
We help organizations build focused institutional funding strategies and pursue opportunities that align with their programs, capacity, and goals. Across foundation, corporate, federal, state, and local funding, we bring strategy and discipline to the process—from identifying where institutional funding fits to finding the right opportunities and developing competitive proposals.
Services include:
Move from reactive grant seeking to intentional funding strategy.
We take a holistic look at your programs, priorities, revenue, and funding history to determine where institutional funding can best support your broader fundraising goals. Together, we’ll identify where to focus across foundation, corporate, federal, state, and local funding—and where your organization may need to strengthen or prepare before pursuing new opportunities.
Your Institutional Funding Strategy includes:
- Analysis of your current funding landscape and revenue mix
- Program-to-funding alignment and opportunities
- Recommended institutional funding mix
- Funding priorities for the next 12–24 months
- Institutional Funding Roadmap + Action Plan
Focus your time on the opportunities that matter most.
Effective prospect research isn’t about building the longest possible list of funders. We research and assess foundation, corporate, federal, state, and local opportunities to identify those with the strongest alignment to your programs, funding needs, capacity, and goals.
Your Opportunity Pipeline includes:
- Research across foundation, corporate & government sources
- Opportunity fit & alignment analysis
- Review of eligibility, requirements & competitiveness
- Prioritization of 12–15 high-alignment opportunities
- Key deadlines & application timelines
- 12-Month prioritized Opportunity Calendar
- Funder Summaries for each opportunity
Funding landscapes change. Ongoing prospect research and opportunity analysis are available through our ongoing consulting partnerships.
Turn strong programs into compelling, competitive proposals.
Great proposals don’t begin with writing. We start with your program strategy, organizational capacity, funding goals, and the funder’s priorities to develop proposals that are both compelling and realistic. When we’ve completed a Programmatic Roadmap, CPI, or funding strategy together, we build on that work rather than starting from scratch.
Proposal Strategy & Development may include:
- Opportunity analysis & go/no-go assessment
- Proposal strategy & positioning
- Program narrative development
- Outcomes, evaluation & sustainability
- Budget and supporting-document coordination
- Full proposal development, review & submission support
Foundation. Corporate. Federal. State. Local
From letters of inquiry and concept papers to full applications and complex government proposals, we understand the different strategies, expectations, requirements, and processes behind each.
03. DELIVER IMPACT
Grant Management & Performance
Securing the funding is only part of the work. We help organizations put institutional grants to work effectively by building practical systems for managing awards, meeting funder requirements, demonstrating results, and reducing risk. From award launch through closeout and renewal, we help your team steward resources responsibly while staying focused on the impact the funding was intended to create.
Services include:
Start strong from day one.
The first months of a new award set the foundation for successful implementation. We help your team translate grant commitments and funder requirements into practical systems, roles, timelines, and workflows—so everyone understands what was promised, what needs to happen, and how you’ll manage it.
You Award Startup engagement may include:
- Review of award terms, proposal commitments, budget, deliverables & reporting requirements
- Startup plan defining roles, responsibilities, timelines, workflows & key management requirements
- Identification of compliance, financial, reporting, partner & implementation risks
- Award Management Plan + Startup Tools
Manage your grants with confidence
Managing multiple institutional awards requires more than keeping track of reporting deadlines. Through an ongoing partnership, we provide strategic oversight and practical grant management support to help your team stay organized, meet funder requirements, manage risk, and keep awards moving from implementation through closeout.
Your Grant Management engagement may include:
- Ongoing oversight of multiple awards, deliverables, reporting requirements & deadlines
- Grant management tools, trackers & organizational systems that create visibility across your portfolio
- Compliance guidance, risk management & support navigating funder requirements — including complex federal awards
- Coordination and review of reporting, documentation, modifications, subrecipients & closeout requirements
Federal Grant Expertise
Federal grant requirements are complex, nuanced, and continually evolving. We bring deep regulatory knowledge and practical experience navigating changing requirements, agency guidance, and compliance expectations across the federal grant lifecycle.
